the wisdom of god As everyone is aware today marks the beginning of our gospel meeting with Johnie Scaggs Jr. as our guest speaker. Johnie preaches at Sedalia, Missouri. He is very able of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and he does so speaking at many Gospel Meetings and Lectureships each year. I’m sure that after hearing Johnie preach that you will wonder why we only scheduled this meeting for three days. The topic that we chose for this meeting is “God’s Plan of Salvation and this should be of interest to everyone. If you have never obeyed God’s plan of salvation I hope you will listen and that you will make the decision to obey what God has commanded of everyone who is an alien sinner. If you have obeyed and you are a disciple of Christ I urge you to listen with an attentive ear as we have an enormous job to go into the entire world and teach others. I believe that the result of this meeting will not be known for many years as I expect to see souls being won to Christ because we will all be reminded of the wonderful love of God and will want to share it with others. The one thing that will be seen by everyone is “The Wisdom of God” as God’s plan of salvation unfolds with each lesson. Concerning God’s wisdom Job said "He is wise in heart,” (Job 9:4). Sometimes we get all puffed up thinking that we know everything that is worth knowing, but I would remind you of the words of 1 Samuel: (1 Sam 2:3) "Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed." If we get to thinking too highly of ourselves we should stop and measure our wisdom against God’s wisdom. How do you feel now? If this does not humble you, you cannot be humbled. Again I refer you to the words of Job who described the wisdom and knowledge of God as being perfect: (Job 37:16) "Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?" I, for one, must admit that I do not understand how the clouds are balanced in the sky; therefore, I really don’t have anything to be puffed up about when I compare my wisdom with the wisdom of God. The Psalmist wrote that God’s understanding is “infinite”: (Psa 147:5) "Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite." Even the apostle Paul was amazed at the wisdom and knowledge of God: (Rom 11:33) "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" If something is “unsearchable” it is beyond our finding or beyond our understanding. This can be backed up by the words found in Isaiah: (Isa 40:28) "Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding." Friends, the wisdom of God is wonderful and let us never think for a single second that we will ever be able to attain a wisdom that even begins to match the wisdom of God: (Psa 139:6) "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it." Being from Missouri you may be saying “Show me the Wisdom of God”. I would start by handing you a Bible and instructing you to read and you will surely see the Wisdom of God. But if you should say I don’t like to read or I can’t read I would instruct you to just look around at the world: (Psa 104:24) "O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches." (Prov 3:19) "The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens." (Jer 10:12) "He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion." The “Wisdom of God” is to be made known by the church: (Eph 3:10) "To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God," This is our intention for this gospel meeting and I am sure that it will be the goal of Brother Scaggs also. Make plans to be present for every lesson.
