PRIDE What about “pride”, is it good or bad? One thing is for sure, I can show you from God’s Word that our Lord hates pride; Pro. 16:5 “Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished” Pro. 6:16 “These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: (17) “A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,” Furthermore, those who possess “pride” fall into the same condemnation as the devil: 1Tim. 3:6 “Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil” Where does “pride” come from? Often times “pride” comes from the world: 1Jn. 2:16 “For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” The apostle Paul informed Timothy that “pride” can come from false teachers: 1Tim. 6:3 “If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, [even] the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; (4) He is proud,” In Mark 7:21 Jesus tells about wicked things that come from the heart and then He gives us a list of those wicked things that come from the heart; in verse 22 you will find “pride” among that list: Mar. 7:22 “Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:” What is the result of “pride”? often times “pride” will lead us to reject God: Jer. 43:2 “Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:” Here we find “proud men” calling Jeremiah [God’s spokesman] a liar. Because of their “pride” they rejected God’s instructions and in turn they also rejected God! Friends, “pride” can certainly deceive you: Oba. 1:3 “The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee,” What advice would I give? The best advice on the matter of “pride” is to rather have a “humble heart”. In fact this is the advice given by Jesus Christ himself: Mat. 23:12 “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. I have one more question; “Is your heart right with God”? It is time that we consider “pride” as a sin!
