Waiting on god
The Word of God clearly exhorts us to “Wait on God: (Psa 27:14) "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." Whether the Psalmist is writing to himself or others, I cannot say. Regardless of whom he is writing I know that this should be applied by everone! Notice if you will that he repeated the exhortation to stress the importance of this duty. How much of our time and life should we spend “Waiting on God”? This is something that must be done continually! (Hosea 12:6) "Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually." This brings about the question, “In what does the Lord want us to wait upon Him”? This is something that all should be aware of; therefore I will list as many as space will allow. 1) We are to wait upon the Lord for MERCY: (Psa 123:2) "Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us." God is indeed gracious and merciful and we should be praying for His mercy to be upon us; (Luke 18:1) "And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;" 2) We must “Wait upon God for the pardon of our sins and transgressions; (Psa 39:7-8) "And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee. {8} Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish." Since we all have sinned (Rom. 3:23) this should be of interest to everyone. 3) Along the same line of thought we must “Wait upon God for salvation”; (Gen 49:18) "I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD." Again, since everyone has sinned we are all in need of salvation! 4) We need to be “Waiting on God for guidance and teaching; (Psa 25:5) "Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day." This is very important since without the guidance and teaching of God {through His Word} we would not know what sin is, nor would we know when we sin and what we need to repent of. 5) Of great value to us is the protection we receive from God, and we must “Wait upon God for His protection. (Psa 59:9) "Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence." God even defends us in the area of temptation; (1 Cor 10:13) "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." 6) “Waiting upon God for righteousness” is also our duty; (Gal 5:5) "For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith." I want to be found “righteous” don’t you? Then “Wait upon God” by faith. 7) Finally we must “Wait on God for the coming of Jesus Christ; (1 Cor 1:7) "So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:" (1 Th 1:10) "And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come." When Jesus comes again will you be found waiting and ready?
