I Am What God Created

When you stop and consider the human body you actually find it very amazing. Think about the human heart, all the blood veins and vessels and the tremendous amount of blood that the heart pumps throughout your body; it is indeed amazing isn’t it? If the heart stops its work for a brief period of time you are in trouble. Man has been able to create an artificial heart, but it is not nearly as dependable as God’s creation! Some of us have done critical harm to our hearts by the life style we live and the food which we eat. I am very grateful that modern medicine and surgeries are now able to repair the damage that we do to our hearts.

However, the heart is not God’s only marvelous creation when He made us. Think about the ear. The outer ear comes in all sizes; some have rather large ears [like mine] while others are smaller. Most of us have been blessed with good hearing. All too often we forget that if it had not been for God’s creation we would be living in a deaf world, God made us this way: (Prov 20:12) “The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.” Have you considered lately the great work that the ear does? It warns us of danger; you can hear the lonesome whistle of a train. It informs us when someone is angry with us. The ear enables us to hear sweet love words. With the ear we can hear the wonderful words of the gospel of Jesus Christ and thusly we can have salvation: (Rom 1:16) “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Some have damaged their ears by the work they do or by their life style, but again there is help available with a hearing aid. But even it is not as good as the ear that God created.

The ear is not only capable of hearing words, it is also capable of trying and distinguishing words: (Job 12:11) “Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?”  This is of utmost importance when listening to anything and especially when you hear God’s message proclaimed because there are those who would pervert the gospel. The apostle Paul warned the Galatians about this: (Gal 1:6–7) “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.” The next time you hear a lie on any subject I encourage you to take just a minute or two and thank God for your ears and the ability to distinguish between a lie and the truth. After all, God made you this way!

God may open your ears: (Job 33:16) “Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,” (Job 36:10) “He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.” It is indeed sad that some will not pay any attention to the Words of God. He also closes the ears: (Isa 6:10) “Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”  (Matt 13:15) “For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” Jesus is here making reference to our ability to try and distinguish the meaning of words with our ears. May we never grow tired of hearing the wonderful Words of God!

With our ears we are able to hear instructions from God: (Isa 30:21) “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” For those who desire to do God’s will He has given us the ability to hear and to follow His instructions. “Why” we might ask? The answer is clear to me; we are this way because this is how God made us! The next time you choose to do what is right stop and give thanks to God for giving you ears.
