Delighting in the lord
Neh. 9:25 “And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.” I am certain that many who read this passage of scripture do so and overlook the intended message. They overlook the little word “THY”! They believe the Children of Israel were delighting in their own strength and possessions; when in reality the people were delighting in the “GREAT GOODNESS” of almighty God! If Christians are honest with themselves today, they too will “delight in the Lord”. What are some of the ways that we should “delight in the Lord today? The Bible leaves little doubt in whom our delight should be: Job 22:26 “For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.” But the question remains, “In what are we to delight”? The Psalmist tells us we should delight in the testimonies of the Lord. Psa. 119:24 “Thy testimonies also [are] my delight [and] my counsellors.” The testimonies of the Lord were not only themes for meditation, but “also” sources of delight and a means of guidance to him. We should meditate upon the testimonies of the Lord and allow them to guide us and they will indeed become a delight to us. Much of the same message can be found in Psa. 119:24 “Thy testimonies also [are] my delight [and] my counsellors.” When we stop to think about the comforts we have in the Gospel of Christ we should certainly have great delight! Don’t you delight knowing the love God has for you? Joh 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Don’t you delight knowing the Son of God loves you and was will to shed His own blood to save your soul? Don’t you delight knowing that Jesus was willing to purchase the church with His own blood? (Acts 20:28) "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." It is a sad thought that so many misunderstand the message of Nehemiah 9:25. It is also sad that so many don’t take the time to delight in the many blessings we have from the Lord! |
