assurance

Is there anyone who does not like to feel sure about what they are doing or attempting to do? If there is anyone who does not like to be assured of their action I have not met them as of yet. Therefore, I think “assurance” is a topic worthy of our attention.

Christians are privileged to have “assurance” in several areas; let’s turn to the Word of God to find the many “assurances” we have from God!

First we are assured of our election: 1Thes. 1:4 “Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.”

What about redemption, can we know that we have a redeemer? Look to Job, a man who suffered severally, yet he was well aware of his redeemer: Job 19:25 “For I know [that] my redeemer liveth” If Job had this assurance should we not also feel assured of our redemption?

Can I be sure that I am a child of God? Yes, as a Christian you can be assured of an adoption: Rom 8:16 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:”

It is sad but not a few who profess to be Christians have doubts concerning their salvation. What is even sadder they don’t have to have doubts, they can have “assurance” of their salvation: Isa 12:2 “Behold, God [is] my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD” It is no secret what you must do to have “assurance” of your salvation; in fact it is stated in this verse, “trust in god” is the only way to have “assurance” of your salvation.

Along the same line of thinking there are many who have doubts that they will make it to heaven and have eternal life. If this is your doubt there is good news, you can have “assurance”: 1Jn. 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” Of course the first thing that you must do is to “believe on the name of the Son of God! You say, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He was crucified, buried in a tomb and that God raised Him form the dead, what else is required of me”? May I suggest that you read what the apostle John wrote in this context? If you will do this you will feel better, you will the have assurance you are seeking!
